TWO SECOND HALF GOALS SEALED ALL POINTS FOR THE ANAMBRA WARRIORS TO UPEND WIKKI TOURISTS

FC Ifeanyi Ubah 2 (Tochukwu Anueyiagu – 49′ , Ikenna Cooper – 85′)
Wikki Tourists. 0

Two goals in the second half from unlikely source Tochukwu Anueyiagu and Ikenna Cooper where all the Anambra Warriors needed to see off Wikki Tourists in one of the match day 7 fixtures of the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL).

Head Coach Uche Okagbue retained the same starting eleven that narrowly lost to Jigawa Golden Stars Monday evening in Kano. The Anambra Warriors would have had a perfect start as forward Samuel Kalu almost got the curtain raiser after being feed by Jimoh Gbadamosi but his effort was just inches wide. The visitors would respond as Jackson Samuel beat the offside trap in the 14th minute as he got to a through ball from Idris Mohammed but for a poor finish. Uche Onuora who was a thorn on the flesh of Wikki defenders failed to finish off a good team move after being teed by his partner Uche Sabastine.

Goalkeeper Sharp Uzoigwe made two decent saves in the 18th and 23rd minutes to save his team’s blushes denying William Ukeme and Sikiru Alimi on both occasions. Uche Sabastine also made a meal of a good opportunity four minutes to the end of the half as he went for power instead of precision after being set up by Ekene Awazie.

In the second half, defender Tochukwu Anueyiagu rose highest to nod home Ekene Awazie’s effort from a corner kick to give the Warriors the lead in the 49th minute. Midfielder Ikenna Cooper ballooned his effort into the crowd after a well worked move and final ball from Samuel Kalu. In a similar vein, Ekene Awazie scuffed his effort wide from a vantage position in the 70th minute. Sixtus Forsah’s free kick in the 82nd minute came of the woodwork with the fans then on the edge of their seats. The Anambra Warriors would end up settling for all the points available as substitute Chibuike Ezeh’s first touch of the ball saw him teed Ikenna Cooper with a belter beyond the hapless Goalkeeper Pius Ibrahim for the winner.

Next up for FC Ifeanyi Ubah is a trip to Jos to face Plateau United on Sunday for match day 8 action.
