Two grassroot teams FC Jassy Star and FC Austin Amatu Academy will slug it out in the final of the Fidelis Ilechukwu Football Tournament billed for Saturday at the New Jos Stadium in Plateau State.

The free-age football tourney which featured 16 teams from Jos and its environs, was organised on behalf of the Technical Adviser of Plateau United by the Supporters Club.

Recall Chairman, of Supporters Club of Plateau, Umar Shehu said the essence of the competition is to honour Ilechukwu for his hard work, dedication and commitment to duty which propelled the team to finish second in the 2021/22 Nigeria Professional Football League season, which earned them a continental ticket in the process.

“The Plateau United Supporters Club hosting the tournament in my name is a great honour for me,” said Ilechukwu as he expressed his delight.

“Am a believer of grassroot football as this kind of tournament is the best platform to catch this talented young football at this level, and should form the bedrock of our domestic league.

“Congratulations to all the teams that took part in the 1st edition of the Fidelis Ilechukwu Cup, they showed the zeal to win but in football, only two teams can make it to the final.

” To the two teams, Jassy Star and Austin Amatu Academy, the final is not a do-or-die affair but play football and show the spirit of sportsmanship.

“I want to use this medium to thank the General Manager of Plateau United, Pius Henwan and Technical Director, Ahmed Ibrahim aka Coach Bros, as they have been the backbone of the tournament’s success, with their enormous support.

“Not forgetting the State Football Association, State Chapter of the NRA, Plateau United Supporters Club, whom I have big respect for, the Local Organising Committee (LOC) and indeed the numerous fans of the club living in and outside Jos.”
