Lookman’s influential display against Tunisia came on the back of his match-winning goal in Nigeria’s 2–1 opening victory over Tanzania. The Atalanta forward has now scored two goals at AFCON 2025, taking his overall AFCON tally to five goals.
He has directly contributed to four of Nigeria’s five goals in the tournament, underlining his importance to the team’s attacking play.
Reflecting on his form after the match, Lookman explained that keeping his game simple has been key to his effectiveness in front of goal.
“I just try to aim for goal, find the right spaces and put the ball where it can bring a goal,” Lookman said. “I love to score, but I also enjoy helping my teammates to score.”
He also expressed pride in the team’s performance and resilience.
“It’s a good victory, and we are proud of ourselves,” he added.
Beyond individual brilliance, Lookman highlighted the strong bond within the Super Eagles camp, pointing to his growing understanding with Victor Osimhen as a clear sign of unity and collective ambition.
“We are all happy and always want to help each other. That spirit is very good for the team,” he said. “We remain focused on our goal of winning all our matches and going as far as possible in the competition.”
With Nigeria already through to the knockout stage alongside Egypt, Lookman will look to maintain his fine form when the Super Eagles face Uganda in their final group game on Tuesday, before turning attention to the Round of 16.
