Troost-Ekong: Super Eagles Will Keep Fighting to Make Nigeria Proud

Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, has expressed pride in his teammates’ determination and commitment after Nigeria’s emphatic 4–0 victory over Benin Republic secured a place in the FIFA World Cup playoffs.

Speaking at the post-match press conference in Uyo, Ekong said the team’s journey through the qualifiers had been far from easy but credited the players for their unity, hard work, and resilience in the face of pressure.

“It’s been a tough qualification campaign with a lot of challenges, but every player has shown character and the desire to make Nigeria proud,” the PAOK Thessaloniki defender said

He acknowledged that the team had to adapt to several tactical changes and coaching styles during the qualifiers, but emphasized that their focus and belief never wavered.

“We’ve had to adjust to different systems and approaches, but everyone stayed focused. Wearing the national colours comes with a lot of expectations, and we carry the hopes of millions. That motivates us to keep giving our best,” Ekong added.

The captain also thanked fans for their unwavering support throughout the campaign, promising that the team would give their all in the playoffs to secure Nigeria’s ticket to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

“This victory is for every Nigerian who stood by us. We’ll keep fighting until we achieve our goal — to be in the World Cup,” he concluded.

Nigeria’s 4–0 win over Benin, powered by Victor Osimhen’s hat-trick and a late Frank Onyeka strike, ensured the Super Eagles remain in contention for a place at the global showpiece in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
