Troost-Ekong, a key player for the Super Eagles, had been contemplating retirement from the national team.

However, his teammates, including Alex Iwobi and Leon Balogun, convinced him to reconsider.

“I spoke with some of the players I have been with the national team for a long time, such as Alex Iwobi and Leon Balogun.

They all expressed that they believed it would be a loss if I left and that they thought I still had much to offer,” Troost-Ekong shared during the interview.

The players’ belief in Troost-Ekong’s value to the team and their conviction that his departure would be a significant loss made him rethink his decision.

This reflection led him to consider his journey with the team from his early days and what it would mean for his younger self.

“This made me reflect on my younger self when I first joined the team, giving my younger self a better ending. So, that’s what changed my mind in the end,” Troost-Ekong explained.

His decision to stay with the Super Eagles is not just about continuing his football career but also about honouring his journey and contribution to the team.
