Troost-Ekong Inspires Team Ahead of Lesotho Clash: “We’ll Fight for Every Point”

Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has expressed confidence that Nigeria can reignite their World Cup qualification hopes, insisting that the team is fully focused on securing victory against Lesotho in Polokwane.

The experienced defender, who now plays for Al-Kholood FC in Saudi Arabia, spoke passionately about the need for unity and self-belief within the squad as they enter the decisive phase of the qualifiers.

“We know what this game means — for us, for the fans, and for the country,” Ekong said. “It’s a tough group, but nothing is impossible. We’ll fight for every point, starting with Lesotho. This team still believes in qualifying, and we’re ready to give everything on the pitch.”

The Super Eagles have endured a turbulent qualifying campaign so far, with unexpected draws and missed opportunities leaving their World Cup hopes hanging in the balance. But Ekong believes that the team’s spirit and experience will make the difference when it matters most.

“We’ve been in this kind of situation before,” he continued. “Nigeria always finds a way to bounce back. What matters now is concentration, teamwork, and playing with heart. We can’t take any opponent for granted.”

Training sessions in Polokwane have been intense, with head coach Eric Chelle emphasizing tactical discipline and attacking precision. Ekong revealed that the mood in camp remains positive, crediting both the technical crew and the players for maintaining focus despite external pressure.

“Everyone knows what’s at stake,” he added. “We owe it to ourselves and to the millions of Nigerians watching us. We’ll give our all — we just need to stay united and finish strong.”

The Super Eagles will take on Lesotho on Friday evening, with victory crucial to keeping their qualification hopes alive.
