In an emotional statement released on behalf of the James, Oyediran, Ojikutu and Macaulay families, Effiong disclosed that his wife passed away after battling for several weeks following a domestic accident.

Paying tribute to her memory, he described Oluwakemi as his “bestie,” a devoted mother to their children, Kufre and Aniete, and a loving figure to many other children beyond their biological family. He also praised her as a compassionate and generous woman whose life was marked by kindness, strength and extraordinary philanthropy.

According to him, she embodied care and selflessness, while also showing firmness whenever necessary. Her death, he said, has left the family shattered, though they remain comforted by their faith in God during the painful period of grief.

Effiong appealed to the public to keep the family in prayers as they struggle to come to terms with the painful loss.

The late Oluwakemi is being remembered by loved ones as a woman of warmth, deep humanity and remarkable impact, whose presence touched many lives within and beyond her immediate family circle.

Her passing has sparked an outpouring of sympathy for Michael Effiong, who serves as Senior Special Assistant (Lagos Liaison) to the Akwa Ibom State Governor, and who is also widely known for his career in the media.

As tributes continue to pour in, family and friends are left mourning a woman whose life was defined by love, service and compassion.
