Traffic Advisory For 2024 Lagos City Marathon

The Lagos State Government has issued a traffic advisory ahead of the annual Access Bank Lagos City Marathon scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, February 10th, 2024, from 5:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Motorists are advised to take note of the following temporary road closures and alternative routes during the marathon.

Temporary Road Closures
1. Funsho Williams Avenue from Stadium, Surulere
2. Ikorodu Road to Anthony
3. Gbagada to Third Mainland Bridge
4. Third Mainland Bridge (Inbound and Outbound)
5. Dolphin Road to Alfred Rewane Road
6. Falomo Roundabout to Bourdillon Road
7. Lekki Bridge to Freedom Way
8. Akin-Adesola to Ahmadu Bello Way

Alternative Routes
Scene 1:
– Motorists can use the Apongbon Bridge inwards Eko Bridge through Costain Roundabout, Iponri, and Bode Thomas for their desired destinations.

Alternatively, they can utilize the Eko Bridge through Costain Roundabout and Apapa Road to reach Oyingbo/Jebba and access Herbert Macaulay Road for their desired destinations.

Scene 2:
– Motorists can go through Victoria Island to link Independence Bridge and CMS bridge to access Apongbon inwards Ijora-Olopa to Iddo and Oyingbo to connect Herbert Macaulay Road to continue their journeys.

For Motorists navigating the Third Mainland Bridge:
– The 3rd Mainland Bridge will be closed to Motorists from midnight until the end of the marathon.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, has assured that outbound journeys from Ikorodu Road, Funsho Williams Avenue en route to Lagos Island are exempted from the diversion.

He added that Officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority will be deployed to diversion points for seamless traffic flow and Motorists’ safety.

Motorists who do not have essential business along the marathon diversion routes are advised to avoid these areas.

Movement on the 3rd Mainland Bridge will return to normal immediately after the conclusion of the marathon.
