Tornadoes Stunned With Late Akwa United Rally

What started like an easy ride to victory turned out a shocking first home defeat of the season for the Ikon Allah Boys in a match day nine encounter against league defending champions.

It was a bright start to the game for the home team, creating several chances in the early minutes as Ahmadu Liman and co tormented the United rear with their dazzling movement of the ball, pressure led to a foul on Ahmadu Liman inside the box, as the travelling home fans shouted for a penalty call, but the referee thinks otherwise, as he waves play on.

Another foul on Ahmadu Liman led to a free kick meters away from the box, Adeyinka Najeem took the resultant kick, but his effort was denied by the cross bar.

Another chance came begging on the thirty seventh minute, when Shamsudeen Hashim was left on goal, but the dazzling attacker was not calm enough, as he powered a shot towards Akwa United goal keeper who produced a great save.

After battling with pain Munir Idris who was dazzling on the wing, could not continue and was replaced before half time by Nurudeen Jimoh.

Immediately after the restart, the Ikon Allah Boys began like wounded lions, Musa Wakili was denied by Akwa United goalkeeper who threw himself at his effort pushing the ball for corner kick – several other attempts were made at goal, but the attackers were not clinical enough with poor final judgment on the day.

The visitors took the lead, through Leo Ezekiel in the Sixty Eight minute of play when he powered a shot passed George Michael.

All efforts to level the tie by the home team met an ill luck as the Champions ran away the winners.
