Tolu Arokodare Admits One Missing Point In His ‘Perfect’ Breakout Season

RKC Gent of Belgium striker, Tolu Emmanuel Arokodare has submitted that there was just one missing point in his otherwise ‘perfect’ breakout season, and conceded that it happens to be his inability to win the Belgian Jupiler League with his team, Sports247 reports.

Arokodare admitted he felt a little deflated with Genk not being able to win the league this season, despite his personal achievements of emerging top scorer with 21 goals and clinching the Ebony Boot award for best African player in the competition.

However, in spite of not winning the league title, the towering youngster, who also scored twice in the Belgian Cup, thereby taking his total haul for the season to 23, agreed that he indeed had a remarkable campaign at both club and national team levels.

While also acknowledging how he was able to score for Nigeria last Friday in a 1-1 draw during an international friendly away to Russia, Arokodare went on to give praises to God and thanked his teammates for making his feats possible.

The dark-skinned hitman, who grew up in FESTAC Town, Lagos, recounted: “It’s been a great year for me so far and a great season. I don’t think it could have been any better. With a goal in the national team for me as well, it was just perfect for myself and my teammates.”

Arokodare went on to shower applause on his colleagues in the Super Eagles, as he disclosed that his ability to score in his fourth match for the Nigerian squad was due to how all his pals in the national team made it possible for him to settle down pretty fast.

He added, “They’ve been very supportive in helping me adapt properly, and I’m starting to get a hold of everything. I’m beginning to feel like this is where I belong, and I just hope that I’ll keep performing every time I’m called up.”

The former Valmiera of Latvia, FC Koln of Germany and Amiens of France ace concluded by looking at what turned out to be his best season as an overseas-based footballer and enthused that things will get even better as the years roll by.

“It’s been a very busy season for me. I think I played almost every game, and I missed just one or two. I am grateful to God that He made it possible for me to start and end without any serious injury.

“That I finished as top scorer in the league was also great. Unluckily for me and my teammates, though, we didn’t end up lifting the league trophy. But, it’s what it is, and we move on,” Arokodare submitted expectantly.
