Tochukwu Okeke Carries Nigerian Army’s Banner High At Governor Douye Diri Wrestling Classics

Nigerian Army wrestler, Tochukwu Okeke proved his mettle at the 4th Governor Douye Diri Wrestling Classics in Yenegoa, Bayelsa State, as he punctuated what could have been a clean sweep for the hosts at the ongoing championship.

Sports247 reports that Okeke, who is a two-time medalist at the African Games, pulled off another stunning victory in the Greco-Roman class, on a day Bayelsa State delivered a superlative performance in the men’s freestyle event.

Okeke, who previously featured in the 75kg category at the 2015 All Africa Games before moving up to 80kg in 2017, retained his national title in the 87kg Greco-Roman category, while Mathias Okuma of Edo State claimed silver.

Samuel Nathaniel of Bayelsa State took bronze, as the host team secured a total of four medals – three of which were gold – on Day 5 of action in the hall of Samson Siasia Sports Complex in Yenegoa.

Zikeanh Amen added to Bayelsa’s tally by winning gold in the 125kg category, after defeating Atere Kehinde of Ogun State, as Richard Muzaan of Ondo State and Simon Christopher of Plateau State secured bronze medals.

Erofagha Dideikenei clinched Bayelsa State’s first gold medal of the day in the men’s 70kg category, after defeating Richard Ebigha of Rivers State, as Andrew Ebikeme of Dynamite Club and Ebike Dunene of Delta both settled for bronze.

Bayelsa State’s second gold medal came through Solomon Ulabo in the 82kg set, with victory over Agbonifo Ehichiel of Edo State, while James Perekeme of Nigeria Customs Service and Progress Peter of Dynamite Club took bronze.
