Tochi Chukwuani Outshines Emmanuel Fernandez In Glasgow Rangers’ Victory

Sports247 reports that, while Fernandez, who scored for Nigeria against Jordan in his senior debut last Tuesday, stayed all 90 minutes on The Gers’ bench for Saturday’s Scottish Premier League fixture, Chukwuani got a starting spot.

Though the Nigerian-born Denmark international was replaced in the 82nd minute of Saturday’s game, he had done enough to help Rangers go top of the Scottish Premiership for the first time in two years with a frenetic home victory at Ibrox Stadium.

Chukwuani, who was born in Herlev, Denmark to Nigerian parents, started playing football in the youth squad of B1973 Herlev and later B.93 FC, then moved to the academy of FC Nordsjælland and later joined fellow-Danish Super Liga side, Lyngby in 2022.

He was on the verge of moving to Italy, but failed a medical check on July 14th, 2022 at Verona because the medical staff disclosed that they had found out he had a minor heart defect, which was against strict rules in Italy regarding heart issues.

After spending two years each with Lyngby and Sturm Graz of Austria, the 23-year-old defensive midfielder got another breakthrough in Scotland, as he moved to Rangers on January 11th this year on an initial three-and-a-half-year deal.

Chukwuani has since become a super-regular at Rangers and again played a key role for The Gers on Saturday, as the Ibrox side keep fighting to put their title ambition back on track, after getting derailed along the line by Hearts.

Rangers’ coach, Danny Rohl admitted: “It feels good because we won the game. This is a big compliment to my group. It shows a lot about the character and mentality and quality to win games.

“It’s not just that we win games, but also we score a lot of goals as well. That’s also a big compliment to the group. We want to play exciting football and in some phases of the game we played enjoyable football.”
