Title Fight Cancelled After Opponent Misses Weight by 9kg

South African boxer Asemahle Wellem has seen his much-anticipated WBA Asia Light Heavyweight Championship bout against Dilmurod Satybaldiev called off — after the Kyrgyz fighter came in nine kilograms overweight ahead of their scheduled clash tomorrow, October 25, at the Bishkek Arena in Kyrgyzstan.

Wellem’s coach, Shepherd Musiyiwa, confirmed the cancellation, describing the situation as disappointing but necessary to uphold the integrity of the sport.

“The fight will not take place because the opponent came in overweight by nine kilograms,” Musiyiwa explained. “We are going back to the gym to continue training and wait for another opportunity.”

The shocking weight miss violated professional boxing regulations, forcing organizers to scrap the championship bout entirely.

Despite the setback, Wellem remains in high spirits and focused on maintaining his fitness. His camp has revealed that the South African contender could return to the ring in December, as talks for a new opponent are already underway.

The 27-year-old Wellem, known for his explosive power and technical discipline, was aiming to clinch his first international title — but will now have to wait a little longer for another shot at glory.

Fans will hope his patience pays off when he finally steps back into the ring later this year.
