Former Nigeria international Eric Ejiofor has called for a major reassessment of the Super Eagles’ goalkeeping hierarchy, suggesting that the team may need a reshuffle ahead of upcoming fixtures.

With international friendlies on the horizon, Ejiofor believes the coaching crew has a valuable opportunity to evaluate all available options and make key decisions about the future of the position.

“This is the time to look again,” he said.

According to the former defender, the goalkeeping department remains one of the most critical areas of the team, and regular evaluation is necessary to maintain high standards.

“We must reassess,” he implied.

Ejiofor suggested that the coaching staff should not hesitate to consider appointing a new first-choice goalkeeper if performance levels demand it.

“It’s about who is best now,” he noted.

At the same time, he expressed hope that current number one Stanley Nwabali will resolve his club situation, as regular playing time is essential for maintaining form and confidence.

“He needs to be playing,” he stressed.

For Ejiofor, competition is healthy and necessary, as it pushes players to improve and ensures that only the best are selected.

“It raises standards,” he added.

The discussion around Nigeria’s goalkeeping options has been ongoing, with fans and analysts divided on who should take the number one spot.

As the Super Eagles continue their rebuilding process, decisions in this department could have a significant impact on the team’s performance.

For Ejiofor, the message is clear.

No position should be guaranteed.

Because in football, places must be earned — and re-earned.
