Everton’s Nigerian-born defensive midfielder, Timothy Emeka Iroegbunam is on the verge of becoming a ‘lucky number 13′ new signing at Hull City, which would see him link forces with Semi Ajayi and David Akintola in the English Premier Lesague returnees.
Sports247 reports that the 23-year-old battling player has already got a hint that he will wear jersey number 13 at The Tigers, who gained a spot back in the EPL through the Championship play-offs last season and quickly launched a strong recruitment drive.
With their aim of snatching credible talents to help maintain their place in the top-flight at the end of this season, the club that once had former Super Eagles’ captain, Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha among their players have reportedly reached an agreement to sign Iroegbunam.
It would mark the beginning of a new chapter for Iroegbunam, who joined Everton from Aston Villa in June 2024 and made 53 appearances across all competitions for The Toffees, but he was never really a first team regular and is now on the verge of leaving.
Globally renowned transfers expert, Fabrizio Romano added, “It’s certainly been a busy summer for the newly promoted side, with Iroegbunam set to become their 13th signing of the transfer window.
“It’s understood the East Yorkshire club will pay an initial fee of £12.7 million, plus another £10.3 million in potential add-ons. Hull are currently third in the Premier League table, so their transfer strategy is clearly working.”
Sports247 gathered further that Hull are already thinking of a pivotal role for Iroegbunam, who played youth football in Sutton Coldfield for Sutton United where, at under-8s level, he played alongside future teammate Louie Barry.
Iroegbunam, who was born in England on June 30th, 2003 to deaf Nigeria parents, started his career at West Bromwich Albion, for which he appeared once on the bench in an EPL game against Leeds United on May 23rd, 2021.
He later featured for the academies of West Bromwich Albion and Aston Villa, then spent the 2022–23 season on loan at Queens Park Rangers, during which time he appeared for England at under-19 and under-20 levels.
He won the UEFA European U-19 Championship with England in 2022 and, after making his professional debut at Aston Villa in February of the same year, he signed for Everton in June 2024.
