Tijjani Babangida Gives Stunning Suggestion: Foreign Coach Can Be Assistant For Nigerian Tactician In Super Eagles

Former Super Eagles’ winger, Tijjani Babangida has come out with a stunning suggestion that a foreign coach can be employed to assist a Nigerian tactician in the country’s national team.

Sports247 reports that, in contrast with popular belief that a Nigerian coach would be the assistant to an expatriate technical adviser, ‘TJ’ said it could be the other way round.

He used the example of fellow-former Ajax Amsterdam of Netherlands winger, Finidi George, who resigned as Eagles’ head coach when it became obvious that a foreigner would be employed to boss him.

Babangida (aka The Grasscutter) recalled. “What happened with Finidi should not discourage NFF from giving our indigenous coaches a chance with the Super Eagles.

“I am sure many Nigerians will not agree with me, but one of our local coaches can still be given the chance.”

He then outlined how the structure would work should an expatriate coach be placed under an indigenous gaffer in the Super Eagles.

“They can get an old and experienced European coach to come and assist any of our coaches. They should not allow the problem they had with Finidi repeat itself.

“They allowed the problem with Finidi to escalate and continue for too long. They should have done what they were supposed to do early and at the right time,” Babangida posited.
