The 2025 edition of the Blazers Tournament kicked off in thrilling fashion on Monday at the QIC Group School, Nung Ukot Itam, with Vtoons Football Club edging Eleven Eagles Football Academy (EEFA) 1–0 in a dramatic opening fixture that had everything — intensity, emotion, and late fireworks.
From the first whistle, both teams went at each other with unrelenting energy. The first half ended goalless, but it was far from dull as both goalkeepers were called into action several times, pulling off key saves to keep their sides in contention.

The second half picked up right where the first left off — high tempo, end-to-end action, and tactical battles on both sidelines. Coaches Alfred Ekeng (EEFA) and Henry Ekeson (Vtoons) made changes in personnel and tactics as each side searched desperately for a breakthrough.
That moment finally arrived in the 70th minute when Vtoons striker Edidiong John produced a moment of magic. Latching onto a pass from midfield, he surged forward with purpose before firing a powerful low strike into the bottom corner — the goal that sealed Vtoons FC’s first-ever victory in Blazers Tournament history.
The closing stages of the match were not without drama. Tensions flared as both teams were reduced to ten men following red cards for violent conduct, with tempers boiling over in the dying moments.
Despite the fiery ending, Vtoons held their nerve to secure a famous win.
Edidiong John, who was deservedly voted Man of the Match, expressed his joy after the final whistle.
“This win means everything to us,” he said. “It’s our first in the tournament, and it gives us so much confidence going into the next games. We worked hard for this, and we’ll keep fighting.”
The victory marks a new chapter for Vtoons FC, whose grit and determination earned them a hard-fought three points on opening day.
