Team Unizik Wins Gold At The 21st NIMSA Games Male Football And Volleyball Events

Team UNIZIK featuring at the ongoing Nigeria Medical Students’ Association (NiMSA) games taking place at the University of Port-Harcourt, Rivers State clinched two Gold medals in two team sports, Football (Male) and Volleyball (Male) events.

In the Grand Finale of the Football event (Male), Team UNIZIK defeated Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki by 2 goals to 1 in a keenly contested football match while the Male Volleyball Team of UNIZIK saw off the Host and Defending Champions, the University of Port-Harcourt by 3 sets to 2 to win the first-ever volleyball medal, moreso a Gold medal, in any Inter Universities Competition in the land.

It’s the first time the institution has recorded such a huge feat in the history of any Inter Universities Sports Competition held in the country. The contingent led by the hardworking and vibrant Chairman, UNIZIK Sports Committee, Dr Dereck Orji and the Director of Sports, Mr Kenneth Ogbonna has ensured that the University’s image would be uplifted in line with the vision of ‘Project 200’ of the present administration led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Charles Esimone, FAS, FPSN, a lover of sports and an administrator with a keen interest in youth career growth and development.

Team UNIZIK have won thus far a total of 11 medals; 3 Gold, 3 Silver and 5 Bronze at the 21st Edition of the ongoing NiMSA Games which is expected to end on Sunday, 7th November 2021.
