Competitors in Nigeria’s continegent to the upcoming 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland have received a strong charge for them to stay focused on the task ahead, while also upholding the values of discpline, patriotism and avoiding scandals before their events.
Sports247 reports that this charge came from the National Sports Commission (NSC) director-general, Honrouable Bukola Olopade, who personally addressed the athletes at their training base at Aberdeen Sports Village (ASV), where he reminded them of the importtant task ahead of them.

Olopade used the opportunity to sensitise the athletes, motivate them as well as urge them to compete with courage, determination and passion to excel, as they enter the final lap of preparations for the Games, which will take place from July 23rd to August 2nd.
Speaking to the athletes at their training camp in Aberdeen after the conclusion of the final phase of preparations, Olopade said the team has been given every opportunity to succeed and urged them to repay the confidence reposed in them with outstanding performances when their events begin.
He further highlighted the Federal Government’s commitment to sports development and encouraged the athletes to embrace the upcoming challenge of competing on the international stage, while also reminding them that representing Nigeria is both a privilege and a duty.
Olopade disclosed, “I addressed our athletes at their training camp in Aberdeen, as they concluded the final phase of their preparations ahead of their departure to Glasgow for the start of the Commonwealth Games.
“I reminded the team that wearing the green and white is both an honour and a responsibility. I urged every athlete to remain focused, disciplined, patriotic and scandal-free throughout the Games, while giving their very best for our great nation.
“As you step onto the world stage, compete with courage, make Nigeria proud, and remember that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, looks forward to welcoming you home with medals and stories of success.
“The Federal Government has made an unprecedented investment in Team Nigeria by providing a world-class training environment to ensure our athletes are fully prepared to compete with the very best.”
