Team 9ja AAG Update: Boxers Promise Best Efforts For Team Nigeria

Boxers representing Nigeria at the 13th Africa Games in Accra, Ghana have promised to put in their best efforts in order to win gold medals for the country.

This pledge was served in a vibrant way by the winner of Nigeria’s first gold medal in boxing at this year’s Games, Ojo Joy Nene, who pointed out that her feat is a
motivation to the country’s remaining nine boxers.

The boxing event started with one of Nigeria’s eleven boxers losing in a controversial manner at Bukom Boxing Arena, but Ojo stressed that they are all in Accra to take laurels back home.

She downplayed the fact that her gold medal came from a walkover against Selmouni Chahira of Algeria, who was disqualified before their 57kg final, but insisted that she and all the other Nigerian boxers are well prepared to excel in Accra.

Ojo declared with a buoyant tone: “We came here prepared and our concentration is on taking something home to Nigeria.

“We must give our best, because our federation really prepared us well, and our coaches have done a very wonderful job.

“I am happy with this result and I am sure that, with hard work and everything, be rest assured that you will see the best results.”

She concluded with a verdict that Nigeria is set to record its best results in boxing at any recent edition of the Africa Games.
