Dar es Salaam — Tanzania’s U-20 women’s national team coach, Bakari Shime, has challenged his players to fight hard and make history by qualifying for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup finals for the first time.
Shime issued the rallying call after Tanzanite secured a 4-0 victory over Angola in the first leg of their qualifier played on Sunday at Azam Complex, Chamazi. Despite the emphatic win, the coach cautioned his squad against complacency.

“Football has its wonders. We must play hard to win without thinking about the result of the previous game. If we won 4-0 at home, they can also do the same because they will be at home,” Shime said.
The coach, who also doubles as head of the senior women’s national team Twiga Stars, emphasized that careful player selection and tactical preparation have been central to his approach.
He noted that the team must seize the opportunity to make their mark on the global stage by ensuring qualification for next year’s World Cup finals.
The Tanzanite squad is expected to travel to Angola on Wednesday for the second leg. A draw or any form of victory will be enough for Tanzania to advance to the next round of the qualifiers, bringing them closer to a potential historic World Cup debut.
