Dar es Salaam – Tanzanian football giants Young Africans SC (Yanga) have advanced to the group stage of the CAF Champions League after defeating Silver Strikers of Malawi 2–0 in the second leg encounter at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
The victory secures Yanga’s place in the group stage for the third consecutive season, marking another milestone for the Jangwani-based club, who endured a 25-year wait before returning to this stage in 2022 — their previous qualification dating back to 1998.

Yanga took control early in the match, with defender Dickson Job opening the scoring in the 6th minute, before Pacome Zouzoua doubled the lead in the 33rd minute, sending the home fans into celebration.
Despite the early dominance, Silver Strikers attempted to fight back, with striker Uchizi Vunga posing a constant threat, but the Tanzanian champions maintained their defensive composure to protect their lead before halftime.
In the second half, Yanga continued to press for a third goal, but a missed opportunity from Prince Dube kept the visitors’ hopes alive. Nevertheless, the hosts held firm until the final whistle to seal a deserved victory.
The result means Yanga progress to the Champions League group stage following their first-leg defeat in Malawi, while Silver Strikers’ campaign in this year’s continental competition comes to an end.
It was another memorable night for Tanzanian football — and for Yanga, a statement of their growing stature in African club football.
