Taiwo ‘Esepo’ Agbaje Loses ₦2m Bet, Credits Sojar Boy After Title Win as Scorpion Issues Challenge

Nigeria’s rising lightweight star, Taiwo Agbaje, may have emerged victorious in the ring, but he still paid a price outside it after losing a ₦2 million wager despite defeating Tosin Osaigbovo by unanimous decision to claim the WBA Africa lightweight title.

Agbaje had boldly predicted a seventh-round knockout before the bout, staking part of his purse on that outcome.

However, the fight went the full 10 rounds at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos, forcing the unbeaten fighter to forfeit the bet despite a commanding performance.

The judges’ scorecards reflected Agbaje’s dominance, with two judges scoring the bout 120–108 and the third 119–109 in his favour.

The victory extended his unbeaten record and secured him continental glory.

Speaking after the fight, Agbaje praised Osaigbovo, popularly known as “Sojar Boy,” for his resilience and determination.

“This title means everything to me, but it didn’t come easy. Huge respect to Sojar Boy for pushing me to my limits,” Agbaje said.

Meanwhile, the newly crowned champion has already attracted attention from domestic rivals, with Ridwan Oyekola, also known as “Scorpion,” issuing an immediate challenge.

Oyekola’s call-out adds intrigue to the lightweight division, especially given his previous loss to Osaigbovo in 2024.

The potential showdown is now being touted as one of the most anticipated clashes in Nigerian boxing, as fighters jostle for supremacy on both national and continental stages.
