SWOFF calls on NWFL to immortalize Henerrita Ukaigwe

The Save Women’s Football Foundation (SWOFF) has called on the Nigeria Women’s Football League to immortalize the late Henrietta Ukaigwe so that her memories will not be forgotten in the Women’s football circle.

President of the Foundation, Moses Bako suggested that the Champions Shield should be renamed Henrietta Ukaigwe Shield in order to ensure her memories last forever in the football circle.

“Henrietta Ukaigwe was a pillar in Women’s football not just the league. She is not the type of person that we should forget so easily.

“I want to urge the leadership of the Women’s league to immortalize Henrietta by renaming the Champions Shield to Henrietta Ukaigwe Shield. This would go a long way to ensure that her name continues to ring the bell in Women’s football in Nigeria,” said Bako.

South South Coordinator of SWOFF, Faith Oluchi also emphasised that late Henrietta Ukaigwe’s footprints on Women’s Football Circle is not something to be swept under the carpet.

She also urged the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) to ensure that Henrietta is given a befitting burial that she deserves and also immortalize her.

“I call her my Aunty just as she calls me Nwanne mu (my sister). Beyond my personal relationship with her, Aunty Henrietta shouldn’t just be forgotten like that. It’s not about crying now and maybe on her burial day, she deserves to be immortalized. Her good works while on earth is there for all to see, so there is a need to ensure that the name Henrietta Ukaigwe doesn’t fade away,” said Oluchi.

Ukaigwe, a board member of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) died on Tuesday morning in Lagos, Nigeria after a brief illness.
