Swiss-based football coach, Adeyemi Anthony Adedeji has reaffirmed his commitment to supporting grassroots football development in Nigeria during a recent visit to Badagry, Lagos State.

The meeting served as an opportunity for both football enthusiasts to share ideas and chart a path forward for the growth of grassroots football in the region.

Speaking with Sports247, after the meeting Adeyemi emphasized the importance of nurturing young football talents and highlighted what he calls the “3D” philosophy—Dedication, Discipline, and Determination—as the foundation for success both in sports and life.

“I always tell them, the sky’s the limit if they keep working hard. Dedication, Discipline, and Determination will drive them forward. These are the key values I live by,” he said.

Reflecting on his own experiences as a youth player, Adeyemi spoke about the challenges he faced while representing Nigeria’s U-17 national team.

“We didn’t have professional training or quality facilities. Getting a pair of boots was a struggle, and our parents were often unsupportive of our dreams to play football,” he recalled.

Despite these challenges, Adeyemi persevered and is now channeling his experience and international exposure to give back to the community that once nurtured his talent. He expressed admiration for Badagry United FC, a team he once played against during his youth league days, and emphasized the need for support to help the club reach greater heights.

“I’ve seen the potential in Badagry United. They have good players, but they need support and professional input. That’s why I’m here—to contribute, even if just a little,” he stated.

Danladi Musa, in his remarks, expressed gratitude for the coach’s visit and encouragement. He welcomed Adeyemi’s willingness to support the club and emphasized the importance of collaboration in building a stronger grassroots system.

“Coach Adeyemi’s visit means a lot to us. His experience and passion for grassroots football are evident. What he’s doing—giving back to where it all began—is exactly what Nigerian football needs. We look forward to working with him to uplift these young talents,” Danladi Musa said.

In appreciation of his visit and commitment, Badagry United FC presented Adeyemi with an official team jersey, symbolizing their partnership and shared vision for youth football development.

Coach Adeyemi also shared his love for Lagos, describing his current holiday as refreshing and fulfilling.

“Oh my God, it’s just like I should relocate to Lagos and refuse to go back to Switzerland because Nigeria is the best place to stay anyway. Switzerland is just the place where we work to meet our daily needs,” he said with a smile.

As grassroots football continues to grow in Nigeria, Coach Adeyemi’s involvement adds value and inspiration for the next generation of football stars in Badagry and beyond.
