SWEDISH CLUB DENIES SIGNING CONTRACT WITH GOLDEN EAGLET MIDFIELDER

One of the revelations of the current crop of players representing Nigeria at the U-17 AFCON championship in Tanzania, Akinkunmi Amoo nicknamed “The Nigeria Messi” was reported to have signed a contract with Swedish club, Hammerby, but the chief scout of the club has cleared the air about the issue, Sports 247 reports.

Akinkunmi, who was replaced on the stroke of halftime due to injury in Wednesday’s semifinal loss to Guinea in the ongoing AFCON U-17 tournament has been scouted by various clubs in Europe for his performance at the tournament.

Among the clubs interested in the youngster are Hammerby, who confirmed their interest, but disregarded any report of signing any contract with the 16-year-old in other not to violent the Article 19 of the FIFA Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players under the age of 18.

“We have nothing to worry about there. FIFA? … come on,” Mikael Hjelm told Fotbollskanalen.

“He (Amoo) is a great player, an offensive player who has both technique, game perception and wit. He is one of many talented players participating in the Africa U17 Cup of Nations.”

It is envisaged that Hammerby will sign the player on a pre-contract agreement if he continues to sparkle in Tanzania, just as was the case with Udinese’s capture of Isaac Success after the striker impressed at the 2013 U-17 AFCON.

Hammerby are currently seventh on the Sweden Allsvenskan table with five points from 4 matches played so far this season.
