The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has officially unveiled its 60th-anniversary logo, kicking off a series of events to celebrate six decades of excellence in sports journalism.
The unveiling ceremony marks the beginning of what promises to be a memorable commemoration of SWAN’s legacy since its founding in 1964.
The newly revealed logo, rich in symbolism, features the number “60” emblazoned in Nigeria’s national colours—green and white—and incorporates the SWAN emblem. A ribbon reading “Years Anniversary” underscores the historic nature of the milestone.
Speaking at the event, SWAN President Mr. Isaiah Benjamin described the logo presentation as “a symbolic moment of pride, reflection, and re-dedication.”
“As we unveil this logo, we are not just celebrating the past 60 years, but also reigniting our collective commitment to professionalism, integrity, and the promotion of sports through responsible journalism,” he said.
According to a statement signed by the association’s secretary Ikenna Okonkwo, the lineup of events for the occasion include awards, public lectures, media games, and a gala night, which will be held in October to coincide with Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary.
The celebrations will also include the recognition of sports icons and veterans who have contributed to SWAN’s growth and mission over the years.
The diamond jubilee comes as SWAN intensifies its role in promoting sound sports governance, policy engagement, and inclusive participation in sports journalism across Nigeria.
SWAN has called on media practitioners, stakeholders, and the general public to join in the celebrations and support its forward-looking vision.
