The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has officially launched a ₦2.1 billion appeal fund for the construction of its national headquarters in Abuja.
The National President of SWAN, Mr. Isaiah Benjamin, unveiled the appeal during the association’s 60th anniversary celebration held on Friday in Abuja.

In his address, Benjamin praised members of the association for their dedication over the past six decades, describing SWAN as a pillar in Nigerian sports journalism. He emphasized that at 60, the association has come of age and deserves a befitting home of its own.
“For six decades, SWAN has stood tall as the unifying voice of Nigerian sports — shaping narratives, chronicling moments of glory and heartbreak, and amplifying the stories of athletes, administrators, and communities whose passion defines our nation’s sporting identity,” Benjamin said.
He explained that the diamond jubilee celebration was not merely a commemoration of longevity but a reaffirmation of the association’s enduring purpose and commitment to excellence in sports journalism.
“It reminds us that sports journalism is not merely about reporting results, but about building bridges between athletes and fans, between policy and performance, and between generations of Nigerians,” he added.
Benjamin appealed to government agencies, corporate bodies, and well-meaning individuals to support SWAN’s vision of building a permanent headquarters in Abuja.
“For an organisation that has lived for 60 years, it is only befitting that it has a place of its own. So, I appeal to you to support our initiative to build a SWAN House in Abuja,” he urged.
SWAN, established in 1964, marked its 60th anniversary in 2024, but the official diamond jubilee celebration was moved to 2025.
