Supporters’ club condemns criminal acts against Nigerian footballers

The Nigeria Football Supporters’ Club has joined millions of Nigerians to condemn the recent spate of kidnapping of officials and family members of Nigerian footballers.

In a chat with the press, the national chairman of the NFSC, Rev. Samuel Ikpea, it described the incidents as despicable and unfortunate.

” In the recent past, we heard of how the father of Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi was kidnapped and later released after a huge ransome was paid. And then coach Abdullahi Biffo was also kidnapped recently,” Ikpea recalled.

” And few weeks ago, Super Eagles winger, Samuel Kalu had to pay a huge ransome to secure the release of his father from kidnappers. These incidents are, indeed, worrisome and a smear on our image as a people, to say the least,” he lamented.

According to the amiable and passionate football enthusiast, the incidents could have immense psychological effects on the players and their performances.

” You know, we have several players based outside the country and such incidents could scare them and their families away from coming to represent Nigeria,” he noted.

Ikpea went ahead to appreciate the efforts of Nigeria Police and other security agencies for their positive responses at such critical moments.
