While acknowledging the missed chances, he underscores the collective effort to convert opportunities, viewing the game as a learning experience to enhance their performance in the knockout stage.

“For me, it was my first start in the AFCON game, so it’s a great feeling for me. I think in general, we played well. Of course, we had a clean sheet, another one in this AFCON. So it’s positive in terms of the defense, but I think collectively we had many chances.

Again, I think our aim now is just that. We know, of course, we get chances every game with the quality that we have, and I think it’s now about converting these chances now,” Osayi Samuel remarked.

Looking ahead to the knockout clash against Cameroon, Osayi Samuel acknowledges the increased pressure with the elimination scenario. However, he expresses confidence in the team’s ability to handle the situation, citing the wealth of experience within the squad.

Emphasizing the team’s focus on their own strengths and strategies, Osayi Samuel believes in the Super Eagles’ chances of securing a victory against a formidable Cameroon side.

“Now it’s knockouts, there’s no three points. Now it’s either you win and you’re through, or if you lose, you’re out. So we know that comes with pressure. But like I said, I think if you look in our group, we have players with vast experience in this situation that we’re in now. I think we have the players that can thrive in these situations,” Osayi Samuel stated confidently.

As the anticipation builds for the Super Eagles’ crucial clash against Cameroon, Osayi Samuel’s insights provide fans with optimism and a glimpse into the team’s determined mindset heading into the knockout stage of AFCON 2024.
