Super Falcons Will Play As One Family At WAFCON 2025, Christy Ucheibe Promises

As reactions continue trailing the official release of a 24-player squad that will represent Nigeria at this year’s Women Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, Benfica of Portugal midfielder, Christy Onyenaturuchi Ucheibe has promised that the Super Falcons will play as one united family during the competition.

Sports247 reports that, although older members of the team, like Asisat Oshoala and Osinachi Ohale, have been included in the Super Falcons’ squad that will fly out to Morocco on Sunday, Ucheibe insists there is no division in the squad and they will play together with one target in mind.

The 24-year-old battler, who played only one year in the domestic league with Nasarawa Amazons of Lafia, before signing for Assi IF of Sweden in 2019, disclosed that the only target on the mind of each player in Coach Justin Madugu’s side is a 10th WAFCON title for Nigeria, which she believes the current team is capable of achieving.

“It’s a competition, and everyone is going there to fight for the trophy,” said Ucheibe, who was born in Kano on December 25, 2000 and joined Benfica in 2022.

“We, as Super Falcons of Nigeria, are going there as a team and as a family. We are going there to do our best and make sure we bring the trophy home.”

Ucheibe and her teammates will now aim to boost their morale ahead of the competition by getting victories in their last two build-up friendly matches, as they battle Portugal in Lisbon on Monday then face Ghana next Sunday in Morocco.

That would set the stage for their pursuit of glory in the Mahgreb nation, as they will first tango Tunisia on July 6th, then face Algeria and Botswana in subsequent group matches.
