As action begins this weekend at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, Nigeria’s female national team, Super Falcons’ coach, Justin Madugu has admitted that he and his players must meet up to the expectations of their fans.
Sports247 reports that, while the competition will start officially on Saturday, the Falcons will have to wait until Sunday before they open their group games versus Tunisia in Casablanca.
Heading into that encounter, Madugu conceded that winning football matches depends to a large extent on support that a team can get from fans seated in the spectators’ stands.
Madugu eulogised, “We thank Nigerians for their consistent support of the Super Falcons. They have always expressed a lot of confidence in this team, and they have given their fullest support to us in every way possible.”
While expressing optimism that all Nigerians and other football lovers will continue supporting the Falcons, Madugu assured that everyone in the team is working hard to ensure they justify all trust that is being reposed in them by their supporters.
“We hope that the support will continue and we, on our part, are doing our best to ensure that the confidence they repose in the team is sustained.
“We will try as much as possible to meet up with their expectations. Let them just continue to trust and support the team, pray for the team, and wish the team well,” Madugu supplicated.
He will now aim for victory against Tunisia this Sunday in the Falcons’ first match at WAFCON 2025, after which they will tango Botwana and then end the group round versus Algeria.
