Super Falcons Forward Joy Omewa Scores on Debut as City Clear Out Forest in WSL 2 Whitewash

Falcons forward Joy Omewa marked her Nottingham Forest Women debut with a goal, but it was not enough to prevent a heavy 5–1 defeat to Birmingham City Women in Sunday’s Women’s Super League 2 encounter.

The Nigerian attacker, who recently joined Forest from Danish side Fortuna Hjørring, wasted no time announcing her arrival, producing a composed first-half finish that briefly gave the home side hope.

Forest had gne behind in the 22nd minute following an unfortunate own goal by Georgia Brougham.

However, Omewa restored parity just before the break, latching onto a long ball from Chloe Mustaki that deflected kindly into her path.

The forward calmly sidestepped her marker and slotted the ball past the goalkeeper to make it 1–1 at half-time.

The second half proved difficult for Forest as Birmingham City took full control of the contest. Wilma Leidhammar restored the visitors’ lead just two minutes after the restart, and sustained pressure continued to trouble the hosts.

Omewa nearly grabbed a second goal in the 54th minute, but her left-footed effort was blocked. She was later substituted in the 64th minute as Forest sought fresh legs.

Birmingham City sealed a convincing victory through a rapid hat-trick from Lisa Lindström, who found the net in the 72nd, 75th and 78th minutes to complete the scoring.

Despite the result, Omewa’s debut goal offered a positive sign for Nottingham Forest as they look ahead to their next fixture against Charlton on February 8, while the Super Falcons forward aims to build momentum in the WSL 2.
