Super Falcons defender, Oluwatosin Blessing Demehin, has been honoured with a traditional title in Ilaje-Bariga, Lagos, following her stellar performance at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
Demehin, who played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s triumphant campaign, was part of the squad that defeated host nation Morocco 3-2 in a thrilling final to claim the country’s historic 10th WAFCON title, a continental record.

Her defensive resilience throughout the tournament earned her admiration both on and off the pitch.
In recognition of her contributions to the community and Nigerian football, she was conferred with the chieftaincy title “Yeye Akeweje Ilaje” by His Royal Majesty, Oba Kayode Aiyetiwa, the traditional ruler of Ilaje in Bariga.
According to local customs, titleholders are addressed with the honorific “Chief” before their names.
Chief Demehin shared the joyous news via her social media handle, expressing gratitude for the recognition:

The conferment of the title adds another feather to the cap of the young football star, who has continued to rise in prominence both as an athlete and now as a traditional leader.
It also underscores the growing recognition of Nigerian female footballers not just for their sporting exploits, but also for their influence within their communities.
As the new Yeye Akeweje Ilaje, Chief Demehin is expected to play a more active role in community development, youth engagement, and cultural preservation in Bariga.
