The Super Eagles of Nigeria will take on the Pharaohs of Egypt in an international friendly on December 14 at the Cairo International Stadium, as both teams intensify preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) confirmed the fixture on Sunday, noting that the match was arranged at the request of Egypt’s head coach Hossam Hassan, who is keen to test his squad against one of Africa’s top sides ahead of the continental showpiece.

Before the clash with Nigeria, Egypt will participate in the UAE International Tournament, where they are scheduled to face Uzbekistan on November 14. The tournament also features Cape Verde and Iran, who will play a day earlier, with the winners meeting in the final on November 18.
Senegal were originally expected to take part in the invitational tournament but withdrew, allowing Cape Verde to fill the vacant spot.
The Pharaohs have been drawn in Group B of the 2025 AFCON alongside South Africa, Angola, and Zimbabwe. Having already secured qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Egypt’s focus is firmly on reclaiming the AFCON title.
Meanwhile, the Super Eagles will be occupied during the November international window with the CAF 2026 World Cup playoffs, where they will battle Gabon, Cameroon, and Congo DR for a spot in the intercontinental playoff.
Nigeria had earlier been forced to cancel two planned AFCON warm-up games in the United States, which coincided with the World Cup playoff schedule. The friendly against Egypt thus serves as an ideal replacement and a valuable test for Finidi George’s men as they aim to go one step better than their runner-up finish at the 2023 AFCON.
The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, hosted by Morocco, is scheduled to kick off in late December.
