Super Eagles Should Be Used As Global Brand To Boost Nigeria’s International Image – Ajibola Basiru

A fervent call has come out of the corridors of power in the country, with a charge to Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to use the Super Eagles as a global brand to boost the nation’s image internationally.

This ambitious charge is coming from the national secretary of All Progressive Congress (APC), Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, who believes the NFF can do more about branding the national team.

Senator Basiru said this and more while sharing his opinion in an exclusive interview with Sports247, during which he pointed out that football has a popular appeal among many Nigeriams.

The doctorate degree holder in law and former commissioner of justice in Osun State declared emphatically that a large number of Nigerians love to watch the Eagles play, hence the need to leverage that followership for a more expansive impact.

He added, “When it comes to football, every Nigerian, irrespective of their upbringing, will exude enthusiasm and patriotism. Of course, it brings joy and happiness to Nigerians watching the Super Eagles’ matches.”

Basiru then singled out the current effect that is being created by the Eagles’ victories at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and praised the team for providing new areas of happiness for their fans across the world.

The APC’s scribe, who is in Morocco to support the Eagles, alongside some top officials of the ruling party, stated further, “From what we’ve seen here so far, aside the commitment of our players, we see the passion of their fans.

“We can see that it’s not only how they work hard to win each game, they also play superlative soccer, which is to the delight of any football loving person all over the world.

“So, it’s a very strong brand, as far as soccer is concerned. It also projects the image of Nigerians as people who are very excellent in whatever they do.”

He concluded by pointing out that supporting the Eagles goes beyond merely cheering them on in the stadium, as there should be corporate backing and private investments that would make the team a profitable brand.

“There must be more investments in the Super Eagles and football in general. That is one of the reasons why our party showed so much interest for us to here in Morocco.

“We are here to give the Eagles all necessary support. This shows the kind of seriousness we attach to sports in the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Basiru asserted.
