Former Super Eagles’ defender, Sam Sodje has added his voice to various permutations that are rolling out ahead of Nigeria’s impending 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa, Sports247 reports.
However, rather than provide strategies and tactics that could help the Eagles win in Uyo on Saturday and on Tuesday in Bloemfontein, Sodje opined that the players only need to remember the crucial nature of both games, then go all out for victories.

The former Brentford of England centre back posited, “There’s no new message for these players, because we are already in a dicey situation as a country. We put ourselves in a very bad situation regarding the World Cup qualifiers. So, I don’t think there’s any more motivation for those players than for them to know how important it is to win these matches.”
He went on to butress how important it is for the Eagles to win in Uyo and Bloemfontein, then added that all Nigerians also have key roles to play in terms of giving goodwill messages and unflinching support for the team with various complementary roles.
Sodje reasoned further, “There’s nothing so much about what anyone can do. But, if I were to be in the dressing room with them, I’d just let them know they have to go for goals and go for the win. At the same time, I will let them know that we all have to do our part, and after that, whatever happens, it happens. But they have to do their part by winning each game.”
Sodje concluded by affirming that the zeal to win would have reached a crescendo in the players’ mentality by now, considering that going to the World Cup would have multiple positive effects and benefits on their respective careers.
“Considering the current situation, the players do not need any more motivation about getting out of this tight corner. We only just have to remind them about how important these two games are,” Sam Sodje reiterated.
