New signing at CFR Cluj of Romania, Kenneth Omeruo has declared emphatically that the Super Eagles of Nigeria will have to virtually ‘kill’ all their remaining four matches of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in order to book a ticket to the Mundial.
Sports247 reports that Omeruo, who has been capped 68 times by Nigeria, with a goal to show for his days in the green-and-white, is already apprehensive of the Eagles’ chances, as the team lie fourth on their group table heading into the next two stages of the qualifiers.

They will host Rwanda and play away to South Africa in September, then visit Lesotho and end the race by welcoming Benin Republic in October, but Omeruo admitted he doubts Nigeria’s chances of picking a slot.
The former signing at Chelsea of England, whom The Blues loaned to several clubs in quick succession, stated: “My fear is of us not going to the World Cup in 2026. This is not just from me, but Nigerians in general.”
The dark-skinned defender from Abia State, who will clock 32 years old on October 17th, acknowledged further that booking a ticket to the first World Cup to be co-hosted by three countries would be a huge boost for Nigerian football fans and the country’s image.
He, however, recalled how agonising it was for him and many of his associates when the Eagles could not make it to the last edition in Qatar, then warned that the possibility of this current team picking a 2026 ticket is quite slim.
Omeruo conceded, “To qualify is important, and Nigerian fans deserve it; especially when I remember the last time out.
“Some of my friends and people I know had already bought their tickets and many booked hotel reservations months before. Then we missed out on going to the World Cup in Qatar.”
He concluded on a philosophical note, hoping that providence would smile on Nigeria to make the 2026 ticket possible for the Super Eagles to the global showpiece that will be staged in Canada, USA and Mexico.
“I just hope and pray that we can win our remaining games and get the ticket. To do that, we just have to kill every game that’s remaining in the qualifiers,” Omeruo stressed.
