Super Eagles Midfielder Christantus Uche Set for €20m Move to Wolves

Getafe midfielder-turned-forward Christantus Uche is on the verge of sealing a sensational €20 million transfer to Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers, though doubts remain over the deal’s final approval.

The 22-year-old Nigerian, who joined Getafe last summer for just €550,000, has been a revelation since switching from defensive midfield to attack.

His form has caught the attention of Wolves, who have reportedly reached an agreement with Getafe. Uche has a €25m release clause, making the proposed €20m fee a significant profit for Los Azulones.

Getafe president Ángel Torres confirmed on Monday night, ahead of the club’s 2-1 win over Sevilla, that the deal with Wolves is effectively done.

“I’m forced to sell him; I have no other choice. Tomorrow he’ll have his medical and the deal will be signed,” Torres told Diario AS.
“We’re not in favour of selling the best players. I think we’re ruining La Liga, but we have to abide by the rules.”

Getafe are grappling with La Liga’s strict salary regulations and are under pressure to offload players in order to register new signings.

Meanwhile, the manager José Bordalás expressed strong opposition to Uche’s departure, describing it as a “very serious problem” for the team.

“Let’s hope he doesn’t leave. I’m against him leaving; he’s a very important player,” Bordalás said.

“If Uche leaves, we have a very serious problem. For us he’s a fundamental part of our offence, and losing him would be a major issue.”

However, reports in Spain suggest Uche is content at Getafe, while his agent is pushing for either a renegotiation or completion of the deal. Wolves’ part-owner Jorge Mendes is expected to secure a significant commission from the transfer.

With contrasting positions between Getafe’s president, coach, and the player’s camp, the coming days will determine whether the Super Eagles star makes the switch to the Premier League.
