Super Eagles’ Jersey Is Too Precious To Joke With – Samuel Chukwueze

AC Milan of Italy winger, Samuel Chukwueze has opened up on the chain of emotions and factors that keep on making him give his very best while playing for the Super Eagles, tops of which is because he sees the Nigerian jersey as a very precious item that must not be toyed with, Sports247 reports.

Speaking against the backdrop of his stunning goal in last Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Jamaica during the Unity Cup final, which the Eagles won 5-4 via penalties in London, Chukwueze said he is always happy when called upon to feature for the Nigerian squad, hence his ability to stay as a prominent member for seven years.

Chukwueze added, “The most important thing is to wear the jersey with honour. This jersey is too precious. When you are in the national team, you have to fight every moment, every day. It’s a privilege to represent your country, and you have to fight for it, because you want to keep coming back.”

The product of Diamond Football Academy of Umuahia in Abia State further revealed that he is always working very hard to keep his place in the national team because he knows there are several up-and-coming talents that want to step into the place of pride he currently enjoys as a regular representative of the country.

He pointed out, “If you lose your position, another person is going to take your place; because there are so many good players out there that want this opportunity. So, when you are called upon, you have to fight for every moment of your stay. That’s why, for seven years, I’ve been fighting for every moment I have in the national team.”

The member of Nigeria’s trophy-winning Golden Eaglets’ squad to Chile’s 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup concluded by revealing that he is not worried by the limited playing time he often gets in the Eagles, as he is always content just to be called up to the camp for national team duties.

“I don’t care how short it’s going to be … two minutes, three minutes. Even if I don’t play, I’m going to keep fighting to come back into the team,” stressed Chukwueze, who will have another opportunity to play his new midfield role when the Eagles face Russia in an international friendly this Friday in Moscow
