Super Eagles’ Invitation Is Massive Development For My Career, Owen Oseni Admits

Plymouth Argyle of England striker, Owen Oseni has admitted that his invitation to the Super Eagles’ camp for this week’s assault on the 2026 Unity Cup is ‘a massive development’ for his fledgling career, Sports247 reports.

The 23-year-old attacker, who is also listed for the squad that will play away to Poland and Portugal next week in international friendly matches, further disclosed that he was in a state of unbelief when heard about his invitation.

While expressing high hope for his international debut against Zimbabwe on Tuesday in the opening game of the Unity Cup, plus the possibility of featuring in the final on Saturday versus India or Jamaica, Oseni said he is still in dreamland.

He conceded that he had a remarkable season with Plymouth, as he ended his first spell in the English Football League with 10 goals from 33 appearances, but the emergent star opted to stay humble about his national team breakthrough.

Oseni, though, reckoned that the Eagles’ crew must have been taking note of his exploits, as he scored three goals in Plymouth’s final four games of their League One campaign, where they narrowly missed out on a place in the play-offs.

The youngster, who joined Plymouth last summer from Saint Mirren of Scotland, after a spell with Gateshead in the English National League, is eligible for Nigeria through his father, while his mother is from Ivory Coast.

“I’d love to represent any country on a national level. It’s massive for me and my career and Nigeria. When they came knocking, it was a decision that I couldn’t turn down. Many doors could open, but I definitely didn’t think I would be one of them.

“I know I had an alright season, but to get called up for a country of more than 240 million people and probably 50% want to play for the country was quite a big deal for me. So, I was really buzzing. All I know is to just work hard,” Oseni told BBC Sport.

Sports247 reports further that the rising star, whose full name is Owen Eric Damilola Oseni, was born on May 7th, 2003 in Waterford, Ireland, where he started his football career with Villa FC, before entering his neighborhood club.

He was part of Waterford’s FAI Player Development course and, after passing through the club’s youth ranks, he made his senior debut during the 2022 Irish League season, then joined Derby County of England’s academy in February 2023.

On January 1st, 2025, Oseni joined Scottish Premiership outfit, Saint Mirren for an undisclosed fee and on June 27th of the same year he moved to English League One club Plymouth Argyle on a two-year deal.
