Nigerian national team head coach, Gernot Rohr has hinted that the goalkeeping position of the Super Eagles is still there for the taking.

Maduka Okoye mounted the post for all four of Nigeria’s matches this year keeping out the likes of Daniel Akpeyi, Ikechukwu Ezenwa, and the first time called up Mathew Yakubu.

Sebastian Osigwe and Dele Alampasu also received call ups this year too. Francis Uzoho is also in the equation after making a return from a long term injury.

“All the goalkeepers in the team have been the first choice for some time and now it’s Okoye’s turn,” Rohr told owngoalnigeria.com.

Rohr continued that Maduka Okoye needs to put in the work if he is to continue as the first choice.

“He has to work really hard to hang on to the position because the others are eager to be there. So it is not his own yet.

“He has done well with his club and that’s what you need to be in our team.”
