Nigeria’s Super Eagles slipped one spot in the latest FIFA Men’s World Rankings which was revealed today, reports Sports247.ng. The latest ranking was published on FIFA’s official website.
During the previous international break in September, Jose Peseiro’s men were held to a 2-2 draw against Algeria’s home based squad. This was followed by a 2-1 loss to the main Algerian national team. Terem Moffi of Lorient had put the Eagles up after only nine minutes, but Algeria equalized a few minutes before halftime when Riyad Mahrez scored from a penalty.
Youcef Atal’s long range strike just after the hour mark completed the Desert Foxes’ comeback. The match took place at the Oran Olympic Stadium on September 27th.
Nigeria has dropped from 31st to 32nd in the world rankings. Nonetheless, the three-time African champions retained their place as Africa’s fourth best national team. Senegal, Morocco, and Tunisia hold the top three spots in the continent, with Algeria coming in at fifth.
Brazil, Belgium, Argentina, France and England are the top five ranked nations in the world. Italy Spain, Netherlands, Portugal, and Denmark complete the top ten countries
Nigeria’s next match is a friendly against Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal, which will take place in November at the Estádio José Alvalade in Lisbon.
