Peseiro made this statement during a post-match press conference following the Super Eagles’ dominant 6-0 victory over Sao Tome & Principe in their final AFCON qualification match.

The match showcased a stellar performance from the Nigerian team, with Napoli striker Victor Osimhen scoring a hat-trick and contributions from Ademola Lookman, Taiwo Awoniyi, and Samuel Chukwueze, who each netted a goal.

Peseiro expressed his satisfaction with the players’ commitment, saying, “Our players played with maximum commitment. They want to play for me, I assembled them to win the AFCON Cup, and today, they have shown good commitment in their play.”

The Portuguese tactician praised the Super Eagles for their relentless approach to the game, highlighting that they did not underestimate their opponents, Sao Tome, despite their perceived weakness. “Normally, if you play against a team that is not strong, everybody relaxes, but today, they did not relax. It was a fantastic game by the players, 6-0 is very good,” Peseiro remarked.

He also extended his appreciation to the people and government of Akwa Ibom for the fantastic atmosphere at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, where the match took place. Peseiro was particularly impressed by the passionate support from the fans, saying, “The fans were fantastic today, I say thank you. I like the people here; everything provided for us was good.”

With the Super Eagles finishing as group leaders with 15 points from six matches in the AFCON qualifiers, Peseiro expressed optimism about the team’s prospects in the upcoming tournament in Cote d’Ivoire. Guinea Bissau also secured their place in the tournament, setting the stage for an exciting competition.

As Jose Peseiro focuses on assembling a winning squad, Nigerian football enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the team’s performance in the 2024 AFCON qualifiers, with hopes of securing continental glory.
