Super Eagles Coach Chelle ‘Frown’ Over Leak of Confidential 19-Point Contract Proposal

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has voiced strong reservations over the unauthorized release of a confidential document outlining a reported 19-point contract proposal he submitted to the Nigeria Football Federation.

Speaking on Thursday, Chelle said his chief concern was not the public debate generated by the document’s contents, but the circumstances under which a paper meant strictly for internal negotiations found its way into the media.

“If I’m being honest, I don’t really know. The first question I ask myself is how this document could have ended up in the media. That’s the question I’m asking myself,” Chelle said.

The Super Eagles coach confirmed that the proposal was formally presented to the NFF following Nigeria’s third-place finish at the Africa Cup of Nations, as part of ongoing discussions on improved working conditions and a possible contract extension.

Leaked details indicate that the proposal addresses financial, logistical and technical matters related to Chelle’s continued tenure.

Central to the requests is a proposed increase in his monthly salary from $50,000 to $130,000, which he reportedly said would cover the wages of his technical team and a personal assistant.

The document also outlines demands for enhanced logistics and security, suitable accommodation with reliable power supply, a fully equipped technical office, and family travel provisions.

On the technical side, the proposal reportedly seeks full autonomy over squad selection and player invitations, formal NFF contracts for backroom staff, inclusion of his personal assistant in bonus arrangements, control over the choice of international friendlies, and the implementation of structured youth development programmes.

Chelle is currently in the second year of his initial two-year deal, with one year remaining, and is understood to be seeking improved terms amid reported interest from other national teams.

Despite the growing public attention, Chelle maintains that his primary focus remains the breach of confidentiality surrounding discussions he insists were intended to remain strictly between himself and the federation.
