Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong says the team is fully focused and determined to deliver when they head to Morocco next month for the crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff.
Ekong reaffirmed the squad’s commitment to securing Nigeria’s place at the global tournament, describing the playoff as a “do-or-die” mission for the team.

“We know what’s at stake,” Ekong said. “Qualifying for the World Cup means everything to us — the players, the fans, and the nation. We’ve been working tirelessly, and everyone is ready to give their all when we step out in Morocco. This is not the time for excuses or mistakes.”
Nigeria’s journey to the playoffs was marked by a mix of challenges and strong performances, but Ekong believes the team’s recent resurgence under coach Eric Chelle has restored confidence and unity.
“The atmosphere in camp is great. We’ve got young, hungry players and experienced leaders all pushing in the same direction,” he added. “We respect every opponent, but we’re going there to win — nothing less. Every match is a final now.”
The playoffs, scheduled to hold from 13 to 16 November in Morocco, will determine the final African qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
Ekong, who has been one of Nigeria’s most consistent performers over the past decade, said he and his teammates understand the magnitude of the task ahead.
“We owe it to our country to finish strong,” he said firmly. “We’ve come too far to fall short now. The target is clear — qualify, no matter what.”
