President of the Confederation of African Football, Patrice Motsepe, has revealed that sweeping changes are on the way as the governing body moves to strengthen its statutes and enforce stricter regulations across African football competitions.

Speaking during an official visit to Rabat, Morocco, where he met with Fawzi Lekjaâ, president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, Motsepe emphasized that CAF is determined to raise standards and protect the integrity of the game.
“We are working on improving our regulations,” he said, signaling a clear intent to tighten governance.
The move comes at a time when CAF has faced scrutiny over disciplinary decisions and governance issues, with several high-profile cases, including ongoing disputes at the Court of Arbitration for Sport, placing the spotlight on the organization’s processes.
Motsepe made it clear that while CAF remains committed to respecting due process, it is also focused on ensuring that future cases are handled with greater clarity and firmness.
“We will enforce our rules,” he stressed.
A key part of the proposed reforms will be the introduction of tougher sanctions for violations, aimed at deterring misconduct and ensuring compliance across all competitions.
“Sanctions will be stricter,” he warned.
For Motsepe, the objective is not just punishment, but prevention, creating a system where rules are respected and upheld consistently.

“It’s about protecting our reputation,” he implied.
