Super Eagles first-choice goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has delivered a grounded yet hopeful message to Nigerian fans regarding the nation’s 2026 FIFA World Cup hopes.
Following a series of disappointing results in the CAF qualifiers, Nigeria finds itself in a challenging position in Group C.

Nwabali acknowledged that the team’s name and history are not enough to guarantee victory. “Just being Nigeria doesn’t win you matches,” he said frankly. “We have to fight for every point.”
Despite sitting fourth in the group, the Chippa United shot-stopper remains confident.
“We still have a chance. It’s not over. We have to push hard in the remaining games and see how it goes.”
The Super Eagles face tough upcoming matches against Rwanda, South Africa, Lesotho, and Benin, but Nwabali is adamant that the team will give everything to turn things around. “We owe it to ourselves, the fans, and the nation to keep fighting,” he concluded.
