SSA Adeyinka Adeboye Salutes Super Eagles Coach Eric Chelle on His Birthday, Rallies Nation Ahead of High-Stakes Gabon Clash in Morocco

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development, Hon. Adeyinka Adeboye, has celebrated the birthday of Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle, praising the Malian-born tactician’s leadership while urging Nigerians to unite behind the national team ahead of Thursday’s crucial showdown against Gabon’s Panthers in Morocco.

Adeboye described Chelle as a “mentor, visionary, and builder of champions,” noting that his calm authority and football intelligence have reinvigorated the Super Eagles at a pivotal moment.

“As the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development, I take great pleasure in celebrating not just a remarkable coach, but an inspiring leader, mentor, and visionary,” Adeboye said. “Your dedication, discipline, and unwavering passion for football have left a lasting impact on all who have the privilege to work with you.”

The SSA highlighted that the timing of Chelle’s birthday comes as Nigeria prepares for one of its fiercest battles in recent years—the continental playoff semifinal against Gabon, a team boosted by lethal firepower and tactical cohesion.

Gabon’s coach Thierry Mouyouma is expected to unleash his trusted formation, with Loyce Mbaba in goal and a defensive line built around Jacques Ekomie, Bruno Manga, Mick Omfia and Anthony Oyono. Their midfield trio—Guélor Kanga, Mario Lemina and Didier Ndong—will anchor a fluid, short-passing style aimed at unsettling Nigeria’s rhythm.

Up front, Gabon’s greatest weapon remains Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, whose four-goal destruction of The Gambia remains fresh in the memory. He will be supported by Denis Bouanga and Noah Lemina, forming a dangerous attacking triangle.

But Adeboye expressed full confidence in Chelle’s tactical discipline and understanding of the Nigerian football psyche, adding that previous encounters favour the Super Eagles. Nigeria have won five of their nine senior-level meetings with Gabon, and though Thursday’s clash cannot end in a draw, Adeboye believes Nigeria is ready to rise to the moment.

“Every Nigerian wants to see the Super Eagles on the world stage. This is the time for unity, not distraction,” he stressed. “Our players need our encouragement, our collective belief and our unwavering support.”

With history, talent, and national pride on the line, Adeboye said Nigerians must rally behind the team, reminding citizens that victory on Thursday opens the door to Sunday’s final—and one step closer to football glory
