The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development, Hon. Adeyinka Adeboye, has described the retirement of Ahmed Musa from international football as the close of an extraordinary chapter in Nigerian football and a legacy that will continue to inspire future generations.
In a statement issued from his office, Hon. Adeboye praised Musa’s 15-year international career as a model of professionalism, consistency, and unwavering commitment to national service.

“Ahmed Musa’s journey with the Super Eagles represents everything we seek to build in Nigerian sports. From his debut as a fearless teenager in 2010 to becoming the most capped Super Eagle in history, he wore the green and white with pride, humility, and a deep sense of responsibility,” Adeboye said.
The SSA highlighted Musa’s remarkable record of 111 international appearances, his contribution to Nigeria’s 2013 Africa Cup of Nations victory, as well as silver at AFCON 2023 and bronze at AFCON 2019, describing these achievements as milestones that define an era.
Adeboye also noted Musa’s impact on the global stage, referencing his status as Nigeria’s highest goalscorer at the FIFA World Cup, with four goals, a feat that places him among Africa’s most accomplished players in the tournament’s history.
According to the SSA, Musa’s career strongly reflects the objectives of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly its focus on grassroots sports development as the foundation for national success.
“His story reinforces why sustained investment in grassroots sports is critical. Ahmed Musa is living proof that when young talents are nurtured properly, they can rise to global prominence and serve the nation with distinction,” he added.
Beyond trophies and records, Adeboye emphasized Musa’s leadership, character, and influence on younger players, describing him as a role model whose legacy will endure beyond his playing days.
“Ahmed Musa’s impact will continue to be felt in our academies, communities, and future national teams. His career has set a standard that young Nigerians can aspire to,” Adeboye stated.
